Starting my blog sharing adventures with one of my absolute favorite family friendly place in St Pete, Maximo Park!

Maximo Park is one of my favorites for several reasons:

Forest Schooling

Forest Schooling is one of our favorite activities to do at Maximo Park. There is always amazing creatures to be found on the bay! We’ve found skeletons of all sorts of marine life, starfish, crabs, jellyfish, puffer fish, slugs, sea slugs, horse shoe crabs, and have seen dolphins and sharks!

Along with many different fun creatures, Maximo Park is also a place with a vibrant and changing ecosystem. The seasons, the tides, the calendar year, and the weather patterns can either fill the marshes or drain the bay. It’s been another great learning opportunity with our kids!

Another reason we love Maximo Park for Forest Schooling is that this park is an archeological site! It’s actually St Pete’s largest at 70 acres. And the best part is, it is covered with educational signs throughout describing the tribes that once inhabited the area. We often spend time talking about archeology, the native people, and how they would have used the land to survive here.

PARKS

Having a car full of boys means I know and frequent all the best parks in the area, and Maximo is great for the park! It is completely fenced in, so the kids are safe to run freely and have no access to the water or beach area. It’s also a soft ground park, so no sand or wood chips in the car after playtime! The park is also covered with a sun shade, making it one of our favorites to visit during the hot Florida summers. It’s a seemingly simple playground, but my 4 and 3 year old can spend hours on this playground going down the slides and running on the equipment.

Nature Trails

Maximo Park is 70 acres of gorgeous walking paths and Florida nature. As you walk the trails you will see lots of different native plants, wildlife, and insects. There are several walking paths and boardwalk trails. There is plenty to see and explore! And to make the park even better, it has a frolf course! We bring our frisbees and practice when others aren’t playing the course.
